Mama Yen

Directed by Jiale Hu

Air bombs sounds. Cookies on the boat. Refugee camp guard as first love. Oh, and sesame street as English textbook. These fractured memories rarely come out to breathe under Yen’s white uniform cap behind the kitchen range. On this predominantly caucasian school with elite traditions, a short-figured Asian women who cooks and literally gives students life mostly remain invisible. Nevertheless, her joy and charm shine throughs in her generous offerings of home-made buns and hot-pot parties to minority students on this campus.
