CENTERPIECE: Aporia

Aporia tells the story of someone caught in the midst of cultural, religious, ethnic, and national conflict. After fleeing Syria, Haleem hopes to bring his wife and children and settle in Germany. During a layover in South Korea, he is found in possession of a fake passport. Haleem then finds himself struggling in an unfamiliar country, taking illegal and illicit work in the hopes of being reunited with his family…

Director’s Bio: Lee Ju-hyoung has filmed short animations and video art since majoring in fine arts in Korea. After that time, he studied film and documentary at the l’École européen supérieure de l’image (ÉESI) in France. Made the short animation <Tapis Roulant> in 2009, which has been presented at many film and art festivals. His next work was the mid-length <We’ve Never Seen a Night Which Has Finished by Reaching a Day>, which came in 2010 and screened at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. Instead of focusing on one specific genre, he has acquired experience and knowledge in various genres related to arts and film. His first feature film <Red Family> in 2013 had its debut at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Where it earned the distinction of receiving the Audience Award, also screened in the Göteborg, Fantasia, and Torino Film Festivals. And the second film <Excavator> won the best director award at the 21st Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and won Best asian Film – NETPAC award at the Bengaluru International Film Festival in 2018. The third film, <Aporia> won the Gold Remi winners for feature film at the 55th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in 2022.
