Golden Boy

Chen Hu, a 51-year old computer science engineer in the Bay Area, is scrambling around the house, preparing for his wife’s discharge from the hospital. In the midst of the frenzy, he yells at his daughter for filming at the wrong time. That’s me. I’m documenting my father’s journey throughout this entire experience – how he has to balance family and work and how he adapts to being a caregiver. Everything feels overwhelming, but this film explores how as my father says, “We are together.”

About the filmmaker: Kitty Hu (she/her/hers) is a Chinese diasporic documentary filmmaker, impact producer and visual journalist with roots in the Bay Area, California. Having grown up as the daughter of immigrants, Kitty’s work applies documentary tactics to amplify stories at the intersection of justice and human relationships, looking at topics like labor, housing, migration and sustainability. She is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
